AMI Online Elementary Assistant Course
Association Montessori InternationaleThe Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) was established in 1929 by Dr. Maria Montessori to extend her multi-layered work and protect its integrity. Today, AMI is a leading world body that carries forward the scientific and philosophical tenor of Dr. Montessori's work. One of the main objectives of the organisation is the propagation of knowledge and understanding of the conditions necessary for the full development of the human being from conception to maturity both at home and in society. Headquartered in Amsterdam, AMI directs the work of AMI Montessori Training Courses all over the world offering pedagogical guidance and support. There are AMI Montessori Courses to train adults to assist children at three age levels. The Assistants to Infancy Course is for birth to 3 years, the Primary Diploma Course is for 3 to 6 years and the Elementary Diploma Course is for 6 to 12 years.
The intention of the Assistants Course is to help interested adults become informed, capable, and supportive assistants to a trained Montessori 6-12 teacher. Further, the program may serve as an information course for administrators of schools and parents. The Course presents an examination of the development of the child in accordance with Dr Maria Montessori’s principles and philosophy. Emphasis is given to children between the ages of six and twelve years old. The course supports the following objectives:
- To learn the Montessori philosophy with regard to child development
- To observe the primary child (second plane of development)
- To learn how to interact with the Montessori trained teacher
- To learn how to interact with the primary child
- To acquire the ability to support the development of the child by assisting the teacher
