Elementary (6-12)


The intention of the Assistants Course is to help interested adults become informed, capable, and supportive assistants to a trained Montessori 6-12 teacher. Further, the program may serve as an information course for administrators of schools and parents. The Course presents an examination of the development of the child in accordance with Dr Maria Montessori’s principles and philosophy. Emphasis is given to children between the ages of six and twelve years old.

Admission Details

Admissions are on a first come first served basis.Applications must be submitted with all enclosures. The Admissions Review Committee will process all complete applications. The decision of the committee will be final and binding.

Fee Details

Rs.35,000/- (for Indian nationals) to be paid through Bank Transfer only. Indian Nationals may pay the fees by means of Bank Transfer in favour of Montessori Institute of Bangalore. Foreign Nationals must pay the fees 165 in US Dollars by means of Bank Transfer (preferably through TransferWise in INR equivalent to US dollars) in favour of Montessori Institute of Bangalore payable in Bangalore.

Refund Policy 

The fee is non-refundable. Once paid it cannot be refunded for any reason either prior to the commencement of or during the course on withdrawal of a student. Students will be required to submit a Refund Policy Acceptance letter at the time of payment of fee. 

Faculty

Alison Awes: Directory of Elementary Training

Alison Awes is the Director of Elementary Training at the Montessori Center of Minnesota,Assoziation Montessori Schweiz and the Co-Director of Elementary Training at the Maria Montessori Institute, London. Ms Awes holds AMI diplomas for Primary and Elementary levels, a B.A. in Art History from Smith College, an M.A. in Latin American Studies from Tulane University, and an M.Ed. in Montessori Education from Loyola University in Maryland. She has taught in both six-to-nine and nine-to-twelve classrooms. Ms Awes is an AMI examiner and consultant and has served on the boards of private and charter Montessori schools.

Each student will be required to read selected materials, participate in  discussions, and write on assigned topics during the course. The  following books will have compulsory readings.

Books and Stationery 

To complete the requirements of the course, these items will be useful: 

  • Note taking materials daily (notebook or computer) 

  • Computer and fast internet connection 

  • Montessori resources and books (see appendix) 

  • Material / Book making supplies: scissors (fabric and/or paper), glue  stick, ruler, color pencils, decorative papers, bone folder, fabrics, basic  hand sewing kit. It is not necessary to purchase these items; use what  you have on hand.
