The intention of the Assistants Course is to help interested adults become informed, capable, and supportive assistants to a trained Montessori 6-12 teacher. Further, the program may serve as an information course for administrators of schools and parents. The Course presents an examination of the development of the child in accordance with Dr Maria Montessori’s principles and philosophy. Emphasis is given to children between the ages of six and twelve years old.
The course supports the following objectives:
To learn the Montessori philosophy with regard to child development
To observe the primary child (second plane of development)
To learn how to interact with the Montessori trained teacher
To learn how to interact with the primary child
To acquire the ability to support the development of the child by assisting the teacher
COURSE DELIVERY
The course combines the following:
• Live lectures, with time for questions and discussion
• Pre-recorded audio and video lectures
• Presentation of videos, photographs
• Directed study, including reading
• Directed practice of techniques
ZOOM SESSIONS
The live lectures will be delivered via the platform Zoom - https://zoom.us/, which is free and simple to use. You will need access to a computer with speakers, a microphone, and a good internet connection, preferably located in a space where you will not be disturbed. Please download the app before the first session and check your sound and video connection.
TOPICS OF STUDY
COURSE ASSIGNMENTS
There are three required Assignments and an Observation Assignment. Written assignments should be typewritten, double spaced, and use correct spelling and grammar. (Handwritten papers will be accepted if the handwriting is impeccably legible.) Use quotes from Montessori articles and books, when relevant, to support your answers, and avoid using resources that were not provided by the course or written by Dr. Montessori and her colleagues, (e.g. avoid websites, blogs).
Papers addressing each aspect of the assignment are required for a Pass. All assignments are due by the stated date / time and must be submitted through the Google Drive platform. If an assignment does not contain all components for a satisfactory mark, the essay reader will indicate what is needed and you will have an opportunity to resubmit the paper in order to meet the requirements.
AMI REQUIREMENTS FOR CERTIFICATION
Admission to the Programme does not guarantee certification. Each student must meet the following, basic requirements in all areas of the course in order to receive the AMI Assistants Certificate 6-12 at the end of the Programme:
Certification:
1. A minimum of 90% attendance at all lectures and pre-recorded sessions
2. Obligatory reading as directed by the course
3. The completion of the observation assignment as directed by the course
4. Submission and completion of three papers (500 words each) or the equivalent assignment on topics set by the Trainer to be submitted by the date stipulated by the course

Admissions are on a first come first served basis.Applications must be submitted with all enclosures. The Admissions Review Committee will process all complete applications. The decision of the committee will be final and binding.

Duration of the Course
The course will run over three weeks with approximately 23 hours of study per week including:
Nine (9) live online session: 5:30 pm – 7:45 pm IST Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays on the following dates:
Tuesdays 1st, Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th November ’22.
Tuesdays 8th, Thursday 10th and Friday 11th November ’22.
Tuesdays 15th, Thursday 17th and Friday 18th November ’22.
Directed online learning in your own time including recorded lectures, videos, reading, student discussions and exercises. Digital resources hosted by Montessori Institute of Bangalore.
Fee Details
Rs.35,000/- (for Indian nationals) to be paid through Bank Transfer only. Indian Nationals may pay the fees by means of Bank Transfer in favour of Montessori Institute of Bangalore. Refund Policy
The fee is non-refundable. Once paid it cannot be refunded for any reason either prior to the commencement of or during the course on withdrawal of a student. Students will be required to submit a Refund Policy Acceptance letter at the time of payment of fee.

Alison Awes: Directory of Elementary Training
Alison Awes is the Director of Elementary Training at the Montessori Center of Minnesota,Assoziation Montessori Schweiz and the Co-Director of Elementary Training at the Maria Montessori Institute, London. Ms Awes holds AMI diplomas for Primary and Elementary levels, a B.A. in Art History from Smith College, an M.A. in Latin American Studies from Tulane University, and an M.Ed. in Montessori Education from Loyola University in Maryland. She has taught in both six-to-nine and nine-to-twelve classrooms. Ms Awes is an AMI examiner and consultant and has served on the boards of private and charter Montessori schools.
