Course Components

The AMI Assistants Course Adjunct can be offered to supplement the AMI Orientation Course at the corresponding age level. It provides practical experience regarding the Role of an Adult as an Assistant in a Montessori Prepared Environment. Receipt of the AMI Orientation Course Certificate of Completion at the relevant age level is required to participate in the AMI Assistants Course Adjunct at the corresponding age level. Successful participation in all Assistants Course Adjunct Requirements leads to award of the AMI Assistants Course Certificate of Completion.

The AMI Assistants Adjunct is a 20-hour course and can only be facilitated onsite, face-to-face.

When the courses are fully integrated, the AMI Orientation Course Certificate of Completion and the AMI Assistants Course Adjunct Certificate of Completion will both be awarded upon completion of both sets of course requirements.

It is important to note, that a student can complete their AMI Assistant Adjunct Course at a different Training Centre from where they completed their AMI Orientation Course, however they will need to submit their AMI Orientation Certificate in order to be accepted for the Assistant Adjunct Course.

Course Objectives

AMI Assistants Course Adjunct for Ages 3–6

To explore the Role of an Assistant in a Montessori Prepared Environment for ages 3–6 under the direction of an individual holding an AMI 3–6 Diploma
To develop skills to create a successful partnership with the lead adult in the Montessori Prepared Environment for ages 3–6
To explore ways to develop relationships of mutual respect and trust with 3–6-year-old children in the Montessori Prepared Environment
To understand the pedagogical techniques employed in the Montessori Prepared Environment for ages 3–6

Course Requirements

AMI Assistants Course Adjunct for Ages 3–6

Award of the AMI Orientation Course Certificate of Completion for Ages 3–6
Twenty (20) Hours of practical engagement, to include:

o Presentation and Practice of Course Content

o In-Class Discussions and Activities, including discussions based on Required Readings

o Supplementary: Self-guided Learning Activities and Assigned Readings with interactive assignments

o A minimum of twelve (12) hours dedicated to practical onsite components in a prepared environment, with children, at a Training Centre or a school (as approved by the Director of Training), possibilities include situations whereby a student can be:

▪ Onsite at a Training Centre with a Trainer onsite

▪ Onsite in their own classroom, with a Trainer/an experienced AMI Diploma Holder onsite, or students can submit videos of themselves to be reviewed by the Director of Training/a Trainer/an experienced AMI Diploma Holder

▪ Onsite in an approved school environment where the lead guide is an AMI Diploma Holder with a Trainer onsite, or students can submit a video of themselves to be reviewed by the Director of Training/a Trainer/an experienced AMI Diploma Holder

Additional Assignments as determined by the Trainer
A minimum of 90% attendance for student engagement plus satisfactory completion of all other requirements
Students have three (3) years from the start date of Orientation Course to complete the Assistant Adjunct
Students have 90 days from the end of the course to complete all course work

Overview of the Montessori 3–6 Prepared Environment: Tangible and Intangible Elements
The Role of the Lead Adult in the Montessori 3–6 Prepared Environment
The Role of an Assistant in the Montessori 3–6 Prepared Environment
Exploration of Activities Appropriate to the Assistants Role for ages 3–6, including but not limited to:

o Observation to support the work of children and adults during ages 3–6

o Spoken Language Activities; the Importance of Correct, Precise, Rich, and Scientifically Exact Vocabulary; Listening to Children; Eliciting Language; the Three Period Lesson

o Adult Movement in the Prepared Environment as a model* for Children (*Used an example to absorb, follow or imitate)

o Essential Grace and Courtesy in the Prepared Environment o Activities for Music and Art

Supporting Functional Independence
As appropriate for the 3–6 level: Sample activities and materials – design; techniques for presentation; material maintenance; material making
Maintaining the Indoor and Outdoor Environments for ages 3–6
The Importance of Regular Meetings with the Lead Adult in the Environment
The Importance of Confidentiality in the Assistant’s Role 4.

Email and Internet Access

Students will need access to Email and the internet as information will be sent to them regularly by email.

Language

Lectures will be in English. Course work needs to be submitted in English.

Certificate

The AMI Assistant Course Adjunct Certificate is awarded to those who complete all the requirements. In order to receive the AMI Assistant Course Adjunct Certificate, the applicant should:

Submit all the assignments
Complete the required hours of practical training.
Have 90% attendance

Attendance

Students must have 90% attendance in order to receive the certificate. Students with attendance below 90% will not be eligible for an AMI certificate.

Eligibility

Current students who have completed 3-6 Orientation Course can apply for Assistant course Adjunct.
Alumni have three (3) years from their start date of Orientation Course to complete the Assistant Course Adjunct
Alumni of 3-6 Orientation courses (from any AMI Centres) can apply for this course, however they will need to submit a copy of their AMI Orientation course certificate in order to be accepted for this course.

Admission Procedure

Admissions are on a first come first served basis.

Application must be submitted with all enclosures. The Admission Review Committee will process all complete applications. The decision of the committee will be final and binding.

Course Schedule and Timing

The Course will commence from 9th to 12th December, 2024 (Mon-Thur.)

A schedule will be provided to the registered students at the start of the course. The Onsite sessions will be at Montessori Institute of Bangalore.

The course timings will be from 8:45am to 3:15pm (IST) every day. Students will be asked to be extremely punctual. Latecomers will be marked absent for half the session.

Fees :

Current MIB Orientation Course students Regular fees is Rs.8,550 (for Indian nationals) and $158 (for Foreign nationals)

Alumni fees (Ex-students of MIB or any other AMI Centers) is Rs.10,721 (for Indian nationals) and $210 (for Foreign nationals)

Hence do take advantage of the same and register as soon as possible.

Indian Nationals may pay the fees by means of Bank Transfer in favour of “Montessori Institute of Bangalore”.

Foreign Nationals must pay the fees in US Dollars by means of Bank Transfer (preferably through TransferWise in INR equivalent to US dollars) in favour of “Montessori Institute of Bangalore” payable in Bangalore.

AMI Trainer: Anahita Gandhi

Anahita Gandhi is an AMI Trainer. She has worked as a part of the training team at the RTI Montessori Course in Mumbai. She has also assisted as a member of faculty on the 3-6 course in Thrissur, Kerala. Along with her colleagues she has run several Assistant Courses across Mumbai. She joined the AMI Training of Trainers in 2009. Anahita received her AMI Montessori Diploma at the 3-6 level at the RTI Montessori Course, Mumbai in 2001. Since then she has worked in Montessori schools in Bangalore at Arunodoy Montessori House of Children and in Mumbai at Activity High School and l EcoleMontessori. She brings over a decade of experience and expertise to her work.

Refund Policy

The fee is non-refundable. Once paid it cannot be refunded for any reason either prior to the commencement of or during the course on withdrawal of a student. Students will be required to submit a Refund Policy Acceptance letter at the time of payment of fee.

Books and Stationery Budget

It is advisable for students to acquire the Montessori books in the Required Reading list. The students will also have to acquire stationery for the course, for course submissions. Students using computers must budget additionally for printing costs. The cost will vary depending on the choices made. We would like to emphasize that this is a budget and that it is only an approximate guide.

The training course neither recommends nor endorses particular stationery products. Students are advised to budget for books and materials for the duration of the course as follows.
